Commercial Plate Fees Due

Department of Vehicle and Drivers' Licensing (DVDL) officials remind residents that fees for commercial or trade licence plates are now due.

The fees, which may either be paid annually or quarterly, should be submitted to any of the three DVDL offices - Elgin Avenue, Walkers Road or at Banks Plaza in West Bay.

Payments may be made in cash, by credit and debit card, or by cheque. Fees are as follows:

  • $1,280.00 annually or $320.00 quarterly for the first set of plates;
  • $760.00 annually or $190 quarterly for the second set of plates; and
  • $520.00 annually or $130.00 quarterly for the third set of plates.

Quarterly fees this year will fall due at the beginning of each quarter on 1st April, 1st July, and 1st October.

In accordance with section 19 of the Traffic Act (2003 Revision), trade plates are renewable annually, and each holder may have no more than three plates at any one time.

Trade Plate Renewal Conditions

  1. Trade plates must be used in accordance with the holder's Trade and Business Licence number.
  2. Trade plates are to be used between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 midnight only, and by persons authorised by the holder.
  3. Holders must ensure that each vehicle bearing a trade plate is covered at least by third party insurance.
  4. Trade plates cannot be loaned or leased to another company or person apart from those listed on the Trade and Business Licence or on the initial application.
  5. Issued trade plates remain the property of the Department of Vehicle and Drivers' Licensing and Cayman Islands Government at all times.
  6. If for whatever reason(s) there is a breach of the Traffic Act, the Traffic Regulations or these conditions, the Department of Vehicle and Drivers' Licensing's director is empowered to revoke the lease.

Individuals who operate vehicles bearing trade plates on public roads without the holder's permission or in contradiction to section 19(3) of the Traffic Act (2003 Revision) is guilty of an offence and is liable, on summary conviction, to a fine of $600.00 and six months imprisonment.
