If your insurance company sent you your certificate as an attachment in an email you can upload the pdf document. If you did not receive your insurance document via email you can scan it or simply take a photo of the document. We only need the page containing the name of insurance company, the policy or certificate number, the issue date and expiration date, and the registration plate number of the vehicle.

Insurance companies have different layouts on their documents; you usually can find your policy / certificate/cover note number at the top right-hand section of your insurance document. We only need the page containing the name of insurance company, the policy /certificate/cover note number, the issue date and expiration date, and the registration plate number of the vehicle.

If using the “Guest User” portal you can submit a renewal application on behalf of another person or company. Please ensure that the correct information is submitted on behalf of the registered owner. There must be in  place a valid policy/certificate of insurance or cover note for the vehicle in question.

By renewing early, you ensure that you will never unknowingly drive your vehicle with an expired licence. Under the Traffic Act you can renew your vehicle’s licence up to 6 months before the expiry date of the licence. However, the online portal will allow you entry to renew your vehicle up to 1 month prior to the expiry of the vehicle’s licence.

An early renewal application will not deny you of the days still left on your present vehicle’s licence. Instead the new licence period will be added onto your current one and will include the days remaining on the present licence.

The vehicle must first be insured and then inspected. Once the vehicle has passed inspection, the registration can then be issued or renewed.

A school bus is categorized as an Omni Bus based on the seating capacity and is regulated by the Public Transport Board. Only school buses that are owned by the parents or PTA are not subject to annual registration fees, but they do have to pay for the registration plates and inspection.

Yes, any change in the color or engine size, the department must be informed as required by section 9 of the Traffic Act 2011. Under the Traffic Act, the  Certificate of Roadworthiness certifies that your vehicle is roadworthy for the period stated. Locally, it is also simply referred to as an inspection. The length of time that an inspection can be granted  is at the discretion of the inspector doing the evaluation based on the condition of the vehicle.

Otherwise, the inspection cannot exceed:

  • 5 years (sixty-two months), for a new vehicle that has not been registered anywhere before.
  • 3 years (thirty-eight months), for a vehicle that is less than ten years old.
  • 1 year (fourteen months), for a vehicle that is more than ten years old.

A  vehicle’s  licence can then be renewed for any combination of periods that will fit within the time period of the Certificate of Roadworthiness granted.

However, the vehicle licence cannot exceed:

  • 5 years, for a new vehicle being registered for the first time in the Islands that has not been registered anywhere before.
  • 3 years, for a vehicle that is less than ten year’s old, if the vehicle was registered before.
  • 1 year, for a vehicle that is more than ten years old, whether or not the vehicle was registered before.

3-months and  6-months vehicle licence renewals are also available for all vehicles.
